DONT QUIT!!!!
Sermon synopsis :
HEBREWS 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us," KJV
"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us," NKJ
The book of Hebrews was written by unknown author. The letter warns Jewish believers not to fall back and go back to the LAW. It is written to say no one is as good as The lord Jesus Christ. Salvation comes through Jesus. Romans 10:9 says "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." The book looks at the believer as a priest. If you are born again you are a priest apart of royal priesthood. All believers have to watch how they walk as as priest: what they speak and where they go.
Hebrews 12:1 : to RUN is the same as to WALK. Running a race is the same as your walk or how you are livings. How are you walking or living your life is how you are running. If things are not working out in you life maybe you not running right. In the book of Hebrews, the unknown writer tell believers the things needed to run their race. God has prepared a race that is different for every believer . Your race not same and anyone else in the church.
6 things believers need to run their race:
1. Rest - Every runner has to be well rested to run a race. Believers need stop sometimes and rest in Jesus. They can rest in the arms of Jesus when they do not feel like fighting. This pandemic has made us all stop and rest we are not running and burning ourselves out.
2. Prepare -The devil has been preparing all your life to outrun you. The devil has been preparing all your life to destroy you. You need to prepare. With the right diet, What is your diet? What are you consuming? What are you watching , listing to and who are you hanging with in your race. With study. Indy 500 drivers go to the track before a race . They do this to know what the track looks like; where the turns are and where the troubles are on the track. Study the Bible. if do not care about winning then live any way you want.
3. Perseverance or endurance - You have to learn to lay aside every weight AND sin. Not every weight is sin but all can be a distraction. When young I ran track. We prepared by running with weights to build muscle. When the time can to run the race we laid the weights aside. There may be a whole lot of hurt, trouble and pain in your past but believers have to look ahead and forget the past. Believers are told in Philippians 3:13 ".... I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead "
4. Patience - Do not look who on the sideline and who has stopped. One of the worst things is while running looking at a bunch Christians laying on sideline . Get up when you fall! .How long are you going lay there on the sideline. Get up and run! . Running the race is not easy. God can take you places you have never been before. "God brought you to it God can take you through it"; just keep running your race.
5. Cloud witness- There is a cloud witnesses : Moses, all the past saints and God: Father Son and Spirit are watching.
6. Look to Jesus- Hebrew 12: 2 says "looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.: Jesus ran all the way to the cross for you
Have we stopped to think in middle of this pandemic that our faith is being tested. The Pandemic is showing you who we really are. If you are complementing quitting the CHURCH; Know that God is still a miracle working god. Jesus ran all the way to the cross for you. Ask God what your race is then ask God to help you. Hebrews 10: 38 "Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him." God is not happy if you quit
Run your race DONT QUIT!!!!
