Learning to Love Everyone Part I (How to love believers)
Redeeming Grace Bible Study
Romans 12:9-13: "9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. 10 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; 11 not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, patient[a] in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; 13 distributing to the needs of the saints, given[b] to hospitality." NKJV
Jesus during his time on earth commanded his followers: To love one another (John 15:12-17) this command is important in that it will show if we are doing exactly as he said after he left this earth to be with the Father.
There are four things we need to consider in showing our love to our brothers and sisters in Christ:
1. Be Authentic
Love for the brethren must be real and not show any sign of hypocrisy. Judas betrayed our lord with a kiss (Luke 22:48) and he in actuality showed no love in his betrayal. We show our love in hating those things our Lord hates and having a desire to do what is right.
2. Be Affirming
We should show actual concerns for our fellow believers struggles and complement them as the opportunity arises we should never use our discernment as a means to put down or make our brother feel worthless. Our love for others must be true.
3. Be enthusiastic
We should be eager to do the will of our Lord with a sense of appreciation working with our brethren which is to do all things in charity to bring glory and honor to our Lord in love. Our concern for others must never be passive.
4. Be empathetic
Believers are to show true compassion to their brethren if they are struggling with their walk we should learn to share their pain and encourage them to continue growing in the knowledge of the Lord.
