Halloween

 Halloween

The day is coming again. A day that is celebrated in secular society with more joy than most holidays maybe even more, for some , than Christmas. Christians disagree on whether to ignore this holiday, celebrate or fight against the " evil" it represents. Your reaction depends on personal experiences and beliefs.  You may have turned to Jesus Christ as savoir and came out of the occult . or a religion that had this as a sacred day. Maybe you had family that practiced or still practices the worship of the occult; then this is a day that may represent the spirituality you have now left behind, to worship of Jesus Chris, In that case this is a day that represent something more than candy, parties and  fun. To most Westerners it is a day to dress up , beg for candy , show of some creativity or have a party in countless different costumes. A Comic Con day for all with food and candy!

Growing up we celebrated Halloween. As a kid we went to official parties a few times thrown by the neighborhood community organization. I grew up in the city in the poor area of an urban city where Halloween was not safe to celebrate on the streets , like most days in the Hood or Ghetto, gangs or crime would interfere with the fun. It was a day that was used to allow perpetrators to legally wear disguises.  So you had neighborhood parties featuring costumes, apple dunking, candy, games and  prizes.  Many celebrated at home, a few went door to door  or the PAL, Police athletic league, who would sponsor a party.  As an adult my church had celebrations for few years to give the kids an alternative to the secular celebrations. The church had a party and service in the church common area where participants dressed up like biblical figures, with scriptures and  junk food.

My opinion is that Paul's words speak in  1 Corinthians  to us today. 1 Corinthians 8 chapter Paul says :  4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one. 5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.7 Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.8 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.  You as a Christians may have no problem with celebrating; while some  may find it distributing or even evil because of personal experiences . You can celebrate as long as you do not cause your fellow Christians. Do not argue over the day and try your best to not let your liberty cause fellow Christian to stumble.  How? well if they are do not eat meat and are vegetarian you WOULD NOT have a fried chicken and steak buffet in front of  them! We are to do the same with this or anything that is not strictly prohibited in scripture as sinful.
