The role of the Holy Spirit in prayer

A short note on the role of the Holy Spirit in prayer from a group bible study.

First thing we MUST know is that The HOLY SPIRIT is a person not just a force or a spirt energy like the FORCE from Star Wars.

John 16: 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. -New King James Version

He is a part of the TRINITY- all three were present at the baptism of Jesus

Matthew 3:13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him. 14 John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” 15 But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now; for it is proper for us in this way to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. 16 And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.”-New Revised Standard Version

Romans 8:26 tell us that when we pray " 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words." KJV

When a believer prays, they are talking to the HOLY SPIRIT, who is speaking to Jesus our high priest (1) and advocate (2). Jesus lays our prayers at the feet of the FATHER. The father forgives or answers our prayers with: YES, NO OR WAIT, Because the HOLY SPIRIT IS GOD, a Christian who is praying is always praying to the triune GOD!

1.- Hebrews 4:14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. New International Version

2.- 1 John 2: 2 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: King James Version
