“I Got My Down Payment Sermon summary
Sermon summary
“I Got My Down Payment” from Ephesians 1:1–14
Point number one, the Holy Spirit is God's down payment of ownership.
Believers have the Holy Spirit, they belong to God, their inheritance is secure, and God will complete the work He began in them. from Ephesians 1:1–14 Meaning of “Guarantee” The Greek word arrabōn means a down payment, deposit, or first installment. A down payment demonstrates that a transaction is genuine and that the remaining payment will follow. Paul uses this business concept to explain a spiritual truth: God has given believers the Holy Spirit as the first installment of their future inheritance.
Point number two, the Holy Spirit is God's guarantee of our inheritance
"The Holy Spirit is more than a feeling or an experience. He is God’s mark of ownership upon the believer. Believers are sealed by the Holy Spirit when they trust Christ. God Is Saying, “You Belong to Me” When believers are:
Weak he gives strength, Unsure how to pray he helps, Discouraged he reminds them that God has not forgotten them. Our Inheritance Comes Through Our Relationship With God and the inheritance belongs to us because of our relationship with someone Jesus Christ! Believers have the Holy Spirit now, but the complete inheritance is still future.“The Spirit is evidence that I belong to God, and the down payment assures me that there is more to come.”
Point number three, the Holy Spirit is God's preparation for our final redemption.
"Holy Spirit gives us strength when we are weak, guidance when we are uncertain, comfort when we are hurting, and assurance when we become discouraged. He reminds us that our future is secure in Christ. "The Holy Spirit prepares us by changing our character. Anybody need the character change? Strengthening our faith, teaching us God's word, teaching us God's word, teaching us God's word, and helping us to live according to God's will. The Holy Spirit produces his fruit in our lives: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
The temple of Artemis/Diana was one of the most recognizable features of Ephesus. People believed Artemis could: Protect the city, Bless businesses, Guarantee fertility and Provide prosperity Paul's message challenged these counterfeit sources of security. Ephesus trusted in False gods, objects like idols, money, Charms, amulets. Paul pointed believers to Christ and the Holy Spirit as the true source of eternal security.in Acts 19, Paul's ministry in Ephesus resulted in changed lives and abandonment of idolatry and magic lead to the public burning of expensive magic books. This caused Demetrius, a silversmith, to oppose Paul because his business depended on making shrines connected with Artemis. he lead a riot against Pual. The gospel was changing not only beliefs but also lives, priorities, and loyalties. Paul's message ultimately points believers away from worldly sources of security and toward God. The Holy Spirit also gives us a glimpse of what is coming. We have the Spirit now, but we are waiting for the fullness of redemption. “I Got My Down Payment
